THE STRATEGIES TO STRENGTHEN/ IMPROVE THE HIGHER INSTITUTION OF LEARNING FOR GLOBALISATION INCLUDE:

The strategies to strengthen/ improve the higher institution of learning for globalisation include:

 Deregulation
§  Flexible learning – more post grad / part time course offered
§  Privatised or Corporatised public universities

Convergence

§  Accept more / have more international students
§  Have twinning programmes with other international universities or colleges


Commodification

§  Modify programmes to suit new criteria or/and to improve the standard –includes reduce, add, alter
§  Upgrade universities / colleges for instance UPSI and UiTM

Choice

§  More courses for ‘job in the market’ –suitable and cater the areas of specialization currently needed most
§  Develop new courses


Competition

§  More private and public universities or colleges


Internalisation

§  More recognition obtained internationally or in the process of getting recognition.  For example the ISOs.
§  Participate in the ranking process / activity by international body or organization
§  Students Exchange Programmes with other international universities or colleges


Important Bills for education:

§  The University and College University (Ammendment) Bill 1996 -was legislated with the aim to speed up the process of corporatisation and privatization.
§      Education Bill 1995
§     Private Higher Education Institution Bill 1996
§     National Higher Education Councill Bill 1996
§ National Accreditation Board (LAN) Bill 1996 – to ensure certain minimum standard and quality for every academic course is acheved.
